Controvesy
Warning: The following is a rather controversial opinion on HIV and AIDS.

I am 100% for HIV research, I donate money and encourage others to do so as well. Treatments are a wonderful thing, especially with the advancements in the medicinal field today.

I, however, am not certain that finding a cure for HIV is a positive, no pun intented, thing. True, those infected with the virus would have a new lease on life and be able to go back to their pre-status lives. But, for those who haven't been affected, it would be a way out.

HIV/AIDS would not be a big deal anymore. People wouldn't care if they've been infected because there is this cure that erases the whole thing. Because there would be this 'eraser', unprotected sex would be a much more common occurance, especially in the gay community. Other STI's would spike dramatically. Let's not forget, if untreated, some STI's can kill you.

Things would be like they were before the discovery of AIDS, annonymous partners, unprotected sex, bathhouses filled. I am not morally opposed to multiple partners, orgies, or anything like that, and I certainly not a prude, but I do think that HIV should be a scare into having protected sex. It's the big one. The one that should scare some responsibility into a person to make them care about their own and their partners safety.
