Red Ribbons
He entered the coffee house. The smell of nutmeg and ginger looming in the air gave the room a feeling of what he imagined Christmas to be like, traditionally of course. The young man saw the festive, if not early, decorations advertising a new Christmas blend, a new decaf choice, and complilation CD's to set the holiday mood. He looked around, seeing if he could find an unoccupied table where he would be able to enjoy his festive, if not early, gingerbread latte. Hurrah! A table. Off he walks, in haste, to claim the real estate for his own.
Off, like the layers of an onion, comes his outerwear while he aclimatises to the new ginger-aired environment. He warms his cold hands on his paper to-go cup. There he is. Alone, sitting by a large window where he is able to watch the world go by. Where he is able to wonder what sort of extraordinary confessions these seemingly ordinary people have to make. His long neck turned to his right allows him to have the best view of the frigid late autumn day. People walk past, bundled up to keep their warmth, going about their daily lives. What secrets do they keep? Suppose that one was wearing Fendi, Gucci or Versace. Would they keep the secret that they can't afford what they've bought? Would they keep the fact that they only have $2.76 in their bank account and are in thousands of dollars of debt to themselves?
What if one of them had HIV? What if they were bleeding and you went to help, and got their blood on you. What happens if you became infected? The bleeding person didn't know that they carried the HIV virus. Even our own bodies can have secrets that can kill us.

Every day in Canada 11 new people are infected with the HIV virus. Get tested. Know your body. Know it to the point where it can't keep secrets.
